** Watch in high quality! This video details of the steps required to clean a typical Biodiesel Dry Wash Tower resin that uses ion exchange resin, such as Purolite, Thermax or Amberlite ion exchange resin. When ion exchange resin is used to dry washing Biodiesel, from time to time it is necessary to wash and clean the resin beds. This video details the correct way to perform this procedure. Steps: Wash the resin bed 5 times with methanol test for soap and purity methanol finished, drain and let dry methanol re-launch resin (ion exchange resin bed load properly) and put it back in service More information: Utah Biodiesel Supply www.utahbio.com Video Rating: 3 / 5

2No. Very much crude glycerin comes from Biodiesel

3You’ll get some glycerin out of it when you flush the tower. This is because the resin does absorb some glycerin as it cleanses the Biodiesel.

5Leon is quite helpful and a wonderful very competent engineer .

6You know, I’m not really sure. But I do know that in the Alfa Laval ones they actually have spinning disks. I think there’s a lot of science that goes into the really spendy units though. The WVO Design ones are pretty basic. I’d give a call to WVO Designs & visit with Leon. He’s an engineer & the one who designed the one I carry.
Sorry, not a lot of help on it.

7what is the technical difference in the styles of centrifuges?? would it be the break point at which the fluid levels seperate because of their mass?? is the most essential thing then the width of the lip on the centrifuge?? or lateral depth of the bowl or both?

8Also, the centrifuge is used on the oil before it’s made into Biodiesel. It can be used on the finished Biodiesel, but it’s only filtering any particulates and won’t remove any soap or glycerin. The dry wash media remove residual soap & glycerin from reacted Biodiesel; which is what this tower has been used for.
The video is just showing how to clean one out once it’s exhausted.

9The process shown is just showing how to clean dry wash media. When enough finished Biodiesel is run through dry wash media, it begins to get plugged with soaps and glycerin. In order for the media to work again, it needs to be flushed with methanol to remove the contaminants.
Alpha Laval centrifuges can remove glycerin from Biodiesel, but not the Dieselcraft Style or the WVO Designs style. Their purpose is to remove particulate matter; they’re simply acting like filters.

10please explain the benefits of this process on top of using a centrifuge , and what glycerin will do to your injectors etc.. if not removed . people seem to think that svo is safe for their vehicle.

11The thermax can be regenerated several times before it completely wears out. So eventually you’ll have to replace the thermax, but you can usually flush quite a few times before it’s completely worn out.

15No, only when the resin quits removing the soap effectively during each wash. The methanol can be reused for more reactions to make bio.
Details on this are in the link on the right in the description.

16do you have to run this flush after each time your dry a batch? what happens to the methanol? do you throw it out?
